Lake Como Triathlon™
Race Information |
SWIM: 1500 Yards |
The open water swim begins begins and ends at the beach area, north side of the lake. Total distance around the buoys is about 1500 yards. (Last year it was about a mile in length.) The swim will start at 8:00 am, after the mandatory racers meeting, 7:45.
Average seasonal water temperature during July is between 65 and 68 degrees. Wet suits are optional but highly recommended.
IMPORTANT: Max swim time is 1 hour. Any swimmers in the water after that will be pulled in by boat for safety.
T-1: Transition from Swim to Bike |
The sprint to the transition area after the swim is sand/rock/soil. If you have tender feet, flip-flops are recommended upon exit. An area will be designated for flip-flop gear-up. With foot protection, you must run a 500+/--yard sprint to the transition area.
BIKE: 12.4 miles |
The bike course is a combination of Forest Service Road and trail. The course is currently tagged in silver and pink plastic strips. MAP
12.4 miles (33% singletrack, 67% doubletrack/forest road). Gravel/cross bikes are allowed but not recommended. The course will be well marked but racers should have a general understanding of the course in case of someone tampering with the markings. The area is open to other users (hikers, bikers, horses, cars) so please be respectful and always LOOK BOTH WAYS before entering a roadway!
RUN: 7.7 miles |
The run course will begin on the north side for safety reasons and the least amount of hiker traffic earlier in the morning. The run will be towards Rock Creek Falls around to the south side and finish on the long stretch of the dam. The trail has varied running surfaces of rocks and well-used single track. Pass with verbal notice and caution. For this reason headphones are not recommended. Use etiquette with hikers, horses, and wheel chairs! Signs will be posted of event in process.
Race numbers must be worn on the front of the runners garment and visible at the finish line.
IMPORTANT: For safety and to comply with insurance and maximum permit time requirements, no runners will be allowed to start the run after 10:30.
